Lockdown defense in the second half paved the way to success for Fayetteville-Manlius and its 14-6 road win over Auburn (0-3).
Seven players scored for the Hornets, who have learned to pride themselves on distributing the ball and valuing every option throughout the early-season practices. Nick Papa led the way with four goals, and Tommy Farry scored three goals.
After weather conditions prevented it from opening its season on the Thursday at home against Westhill, F-M (1-0) came out, passed it around, and had assists on eight of the 14 goals. Papa had two, Chris Lubrino had a pair to go along with his two goals, Brendon Leuze had two, complementing the goal he scored, and then Sam DiChristina dished one out.
Jack Shanley, who scored two goals, also had an assist. Kyle Gilroy and Logan Wilkinson got on the board for the Hornets, who allowed just one goal after halftime.
The Hornets are on the road again on Wednesday, when they visit Baldwinsville (3-0).
