Another offensive explosion and a great defensive effort led the way and guided Fayetteville-Manlius to a 20-6 victory over Liverpool, making it three straight wins for the Hornets.
During the streak, the Hornets (5-1) have deposited a total of 54 goals and have allowed just 15. But, more importantly, they have gotten the opportunity to work in and incorporate some of the younger players into the gameplan.
Before the second unit got the opportunity to express their talents, the regulars went to work. They buried four goals in the first quarter and then beat the goalie a combined 13 times in the second and third quarters.
Many of F-M’s goals were scored and assisted by Donovan Welsh and Mac Fish. They both had huge games with multiple goals. Welsh recorded three goals and three assists while Fish buried four goals and had one assist.
James Rettinger and Luke Burnam continued their hot streaks and each scored a pair of goals and then goals also came from Tommy Ryu and Brett Barlow.
Ryan Cicci and the face-off master, Zak Van Valkenburg, also scored goals. Cicci had two goals and Van Valkenburg scored one.
The younger guys made their appearances late in the game and picked up where the veterans left the off, as there were four Hornet goals scored by players who see minimal playing time.
Brendon Leuze led the second unit and scored two goals. Mikey Porter and Carson Yancey also added two points to their season total and both had a goal and an assist.
